PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson Healthcare is asking residents to Honk for Healthcare at noon today to show appreciation for those who are on the front lines taking care of people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
To participate in the 15-minute “care parade” around the hospital campus, residents can drive cars, walk or ride bicycles, skateboards or scooters, said Amy Yaley, hospital spokesperson.
“The parade will encourage and support our healthcare workers,” Yaley said.
The parade will make a circuit around the hospital at 834 Sheridan St. in Port Townsend.
“They can wave a sign, honk a horn or sing a song, just bring a friend and help us celebrate those who are caring for our neighbors,” Yaley said.
The event is part of an effort to honor employees throughout the entire month of September.
Among them are different teams being celebrated for the work they have been doing, special menus offered in the cafe and an art contest, Yaley said.
“September has been particularly straining on employees with increased COVID activity in our community, higher-than-average patient volumes throughout the hospital, and community divisiveness around the vaccine and masks,” she said.
