PORT TOWNSEND — A pod of orcas that visited last December returned for a 40-minute spring visit Thursday.
“Our office drained out to watch them,” said Nancy Stelow, a Windermere Real Estate Realtor whose office is on Water Street across from the ferry dock.
“We all ran out and watched the whales for about five minutes. They weren’t breaching, but a couple of them were splashing around.”
Stelow said the killer whales were west of the ferry dock and so close “they were right in our face.”
She and her co-workers watched the whales until they disappeared behind Swain’s General Store, 1121 Water St., she said.
