PORT ANGELES — Drennan and Ford Funeral Home has begun collecting valentines for its 10th Operation Valentine card collection program.
The annual program collects handmade Valentine cards from community members and distributes them to local and regional veterans, as well as active-duty service members both in the U.S. and deployed overseas.
Valentines can include words of encouragement, get-well sentiments or a thank you for serving our country.
The valentines can be in the form of heart-shaped cutouts, folded paper with a note, drawings and the like, envelopes are not necessary.
Creators should refrain from asking for a return response from the veteran as the nature of their injury or illness or the status of their current service may preclude them from responding.
Steve and Leah Ford will collect valentines at local schools Feb. 6.
Valentines also can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays through Feb. 6 at the funeral home at 260 Monroe Road.
