OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Three people were killed and a child was injured Sunday afternoon in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 101 on Lake Crescent’s south shore.
The four were driving eastbound on slippery Highway 101 in a black, 4-door Mazda Protege when it collided with a Winnebago recreational vehicle heading westbound, said Victoria Myers of Great Falls, Mont., the driver of the Winnebago.
Authorities identified the dead as the car’s driver, Dawn Mendez of Neah Bay, and two passengers: Sharon Charles of Forks and Asheli Dawn Villicana, 11.
No ages of Mendez or Charles, both adults, were available from park authorities Sunday night. The relationship of Asheli to either also wasn’t known.
Five-year-old Micaela Marie Villicana, a third passenger in the Mazda, was taken to Olympic Memorial Hospital in Port Angeles.
