PORT TOWNSEND — The executive director of the North Olympic Peninsula’s largest social services agency has stepped down because of unspecified health reasons, leaving the position as the holiday season kicks into high gear.
Dan Wollam, 55, who had been leading Olympic Community Action Programs for six years, officially left his position Nov. 22.
Wollam said he decided to leave for personal reasons, but declined to elaborate.
“It’s a combination of personal reasons,” Wollam said.
Judi Morris, chairman of the board that oversees OlyCAP, said Wollam was leaving for health reasons that have made it increasingly more difficult for him to perform the duties of executive director.
She said Wollam recently took three weeks off to stabilize his health.
Wollam said his resignation is “in the process of taking effect” and that he is using accrued vacation time before officially leaving the agency.
Morris added that Wollam is officially on a 60-day unpaid leave so the social services agency can use him as a consultant if needed.
Hockett is acting director
In the meantime, Deputy Director Timothy Hockett, 55, has been named acting executive director, moving up from the position Wollam appointed him to in 2002.
