PORT ANGELES — Victoria-area kayaker Lin Wang, 56, of Saanich, B.C., has been identified as the man whose body was discovered last week on a Clallam Bay-area shoreline.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office matched dental records from the missing kayaker with those of the remains of the man whose corpse was found by a couple hiking the beach shortly before noon July 3 off state Highway 112 east of Clallam Bay.
“The body we received and the X-rays we received match up to Lin Wang,” James Sosik Jr., lead investigator for the Medical Examiner’s Office, said Wednesday morning.
“The cause of death is drowning. The manner of death is accident.”
Wang was reported missing June 19 after setting off a day earlier from East Sooke, B.C., 27 miles across the Strait of Juan de Fuca from Clallam Bay.
The kayaker’s family identified Wang from photos of the body and the clothing he was wearing, including a University of Victoria sweatshirt, Brian Smith, county Sheriff’s Office chief criminal deputy, said last week.
Wang was found wearing shorts and rain gear, including rubber boots, authorities said.
