NEWS BRIEFS: Texas swing, country mosey into Sequim, Port Angeles this weekend … and other items

SEQUIM — The Sequim Guild of Seattle Children’s Hospital will bring “Texas Swing and Country Music” to Sequim and Port Angeles on Saturday.

Musicians Kristyn Harris and Kate Powers will perform from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road, and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Port Angeles Senior & Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St.

The concert features Western swing music with vocals, guitar and fiddle.

Tickets will be $15 at the door or can be purchased in advance from Sequim Guild members by emailing sequimguild@gmail.com.

The concert benefits Seattle Children’s Hospital, and all proceeds go to the hospital’s uncompensated care fund.

Seattle Children’s Hospital gives essential health care to children in Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho regardless of a family’s ability to pay. In 2014, Seattle Children’s used more than $1.7 million of uncompensated care fund dollars to provide care to children from Clallam County.

PORT TOWNSEND — New Life Church, 1636 Hastings Ave., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday will host Crosby Lane, a musical group based in Nashville, Tenn.

The family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

Attendess are encouraged to bring their own basket of food to enjoy during the picnic.

Crosby Lane is made up of former country music artist Tonja Rose; multi-Dove Award writer/arranger and longtime worship leader John Lemonis; and his wife, multi-instrumentalist Michaela Lemonis, according to crosbylane.com.

Thrift shop open

SEQUIM — The Sequim-Dungeness Hospital Guild’s Thrift Shop will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The shop at 204 W. Bell St. will feature summer fashions, furniture items including a drop-leaf dining table with matching chairs, designer handbags, fine jewelry, kitchen appliances and dishware.

All white-tagged items will be marked half-price, and the shop always needs new volunteers and consignors.

Best Friend Nutrition

SEQUIM — Best Friend Nutrition, 680 W. Washington St., Suite B-102, will host Reiki Master Josslyn Streett at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Streett will present on “Healing Your Pets and You with Reiki.”

A drawing will be held for a free energy healing session with Streett, and attendees will receive a 10 percent off coupon for the day of the event.

The event is free and open to the public.

Best Friend Nutrition is a health food store for pets and is owned by Hope and Jim Williams.

Club blood drive

SEQUIM — The Rotary Clubs of Sequim will sponsor a blood drive at SunLand Golf & Country Club in the clubhouse, 109 Hilltop Drive, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12.

Appointments are available. Walk-ins are welcome between appointments.

Donations are encouraged.

Parachute day

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St, will present a parachute play date at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9.

It will be for toddlers between the ages of 2 and 5.

Participants will sing songs, learn rhymes and play games involving the library’s parachute.

Parachute play encourages cooperation and team-building and helps builds strong muscles, according to a news release.

Caregivers must be present throughout the program.

The event will take place outdoors on the lawn, weather permitting.
