PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Noon Rotary Club recently donated $2,300 to the Feiro Marine Life Center.
Noon Rotary foundation director Austin Lee and treasurer Ralph Bauman presented the funds to the center’s education coordinator, Rachele Brown.
The money completed the amount needed to send Jakobee Ellis and Nathan Ganzhorn to compete at the SeaPerch Nationals in Atlanta.
The total fundraising goal to support the team was $5,000 and came from a variety of service clubs, businesses, family and friends.
Mac group meeting
SEQUIM — Members of the Strait Macintosh User Group will hold a question-and-answer session about macOS and iOS apps at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The meeting of SMUG will be at the Elks Lodge, 131 E. First St.
Topics for the meeting will include photos, camera and editing; iTunes and music; and numbers/spreadsheets.
The meeting is open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
Backyard birding
SEQUIM — “Sounds of Spring,” the eighth in a series of Backyard Birding classes, will be at the Dungeness River Audubon Center from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
The center is located in Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road.
The cost of the session is $5 for adults and free for those younger than 18.
Audubon leaders Ken Weirsema and Dow Lambert will present a slide, video and sound program about recognizing neighborhood birds by their songs and calls.
Backyard Birding can be taken either as individual classes or in a series.
After the completion of five sessions, participants will be offered free membership in the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society for one year.
Chain gang busy
PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office chain gang worked on a plant restoration project on Hoko Ozette Road, milepost 19.5, during the week of April 17-21.
Notable items found along roadways were 13 tires and one TV.
Crew members found illegal dumpsites on the 1500 and 1000 blocks of Joyce-Piedmont Road, totaling 760 pounds of garbage.
Crew members also cleaned 3 miles of Whitcom-Dimmel Road and 480 pounds of litter as well as 3 miles of Mary Clark Road and 50 pounds of litter.
Crew members also felled 10 dangerous trees and chipped debris on Joyce-Piedmont Road; removed and hauled away an old fence on the 2400 block of East Beach Road; and dug a drainage ditch and cleaned an outlet to a culvert on Howard Road.
The chain gang has so far this year cleaned 345.1 miles of roadway, picked up 50,310 pounds of dumpsite litter, picked up 33,490 pounds of roadside litter, recycled 2,814 pounds of aluminum, removed or sprayed 810 Scotch broom plants and brushed 23.25 miles of county rights of way.
