NEWS BRIEFS: Port Angeles group members to discuss camps, drug dealing tonight … and other items

PORT ANGELES — Members of the Port Angeles Citizen Action Network and Revitalize Port Angeles will meet with police and city officials in a community meeting at 6 tonight.

The meeting concerns illegal camping and drug dealing, according to a Facebook post.

It will be in the Vern Burton Community Center meeting room, 308 E. Fourth St.

Climate change talk

PORT ANGELES — Atmospheric scientist Cliff Mass will present the topic “How Will Northwest Climate Change Under Global Warming?” at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., at 6:30 tonight.

The presentation will focus on the projected impacts of global warming on the Olympic Peninsula within the scope of warming trends on a global scale.

In addition to reviewing the current science, Mass will evaluate the quality of media coverage regarding climate change.

Mass is a professor of atmospheric sciences at the University of Washington.

He also runs the most extensive local high-resolution prediction system in the United States and is the chief scientist of the Northwest Modeling Consortium, according to a news release.

PORT ANGELES — Marc and Pat Thomsen, aka Team Thomsen, of Coldwell Banker Uptown Realty have been named the Agent of the Month for July.

PA business fetes 110th anniversary

PORT ANGELES — Angeles Millwork & Lumber Co. will celebrate its 110th anniversary with a BBQ celebration from 11 a.m. to

2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at Angeles Millwork & Lumber Co., 1601 S. C St.

The event is open to the public and will feature free pulled pork sandwiches, barbecued corn, slaw and refreshments.

Product vendors will display the latest innovations in building materials, tools and products.

Drawings will be done every 15 minutes, giving out more than $800 in gift cards from Port Angeles businesses, including Brown’s Outdoor, Chestnut Cottage, Moss, Next Door Gastropub, NW Screen Printing, Cock-a-doodle Doughnuts, SkinCare Suites, Turnip the Beet, Kokopelli Grill, Waters West Fly Fishing, H2O Waterfront Bistro, Little Devil’s Lunchbox, Sound Bike & Kayaks and Common Grounds Café.
