FORKS — A Bonney Lake man involved in a motorhome rollover early Tuesday evening on U.S. Highway 101 in Jefferson County was treated and discharged from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle by noon Wednesday, authorities said this morning.
Curtis M. Rhodes, 50, was initially transported to Forks Community Hospital before being transferred Wednesday morning to Harborview, Forks hospital nursing supervisor Kelly Thompson said.
Rhodes was cut and bruised, and was bleeding between his ribs and hips following the incident, State Patrol Trooper Katherine Weatherwax said.
Weatherwax said the Sterling motorhome, driven by Shane Hoskins, 51, of Puyallup, had broken down after losing power to the headlights and was being guided forward by a tow truck when it rolled down an embankment shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday.
She said Hoskins and Rhodes were living in the vehicle that had broken down earlier Tuesday.
Neither Rhodes nor Hoskins were wearing seat belts, according to a State Patrol press memo. Hoskins, who was not hospitalized, was cited for not wearing a seat belt and for driving without headlights.
Drugs or alcohol were not involved, according to the State Patrol memo.
The rollover occurred at Milepost 178 on U.S. Highway 101 just south of the Clallam County line.
The vehicle was wedged in the crease of the embankment 15-20 feet from the roadway, almost landing on its top, when Forks Fire Chief Bill Paul and other first responders arrived.
Rhodes and Hoskins had exited the motorhome and were waiting beside the roadway, Paul said.
“If they were seat-belted, I honestly believe it would have been a non-injury accident,” he said.
