PORT ANGELES — Two weeks after a Clallam County inmate died and a later suicide attempt by another was unsuccessful, county commissioners are considering increasing security at the jail.
The comments came after commissioners took a 40-minute jail tour on Monday.
Two commissioners have promised to consider extra video cameras to help corrections officers prevent suicides.
Cannon Maynock, 24, of Sequim died March 15 after attempting suicide. He was being held in the jail on suspicion of stealing a motor vehicle and third-degree theft.
His suicide attempt occurred March 7 in the jail’s medical unit, which does not have a video camera. Maynock used a sheet to hang himself.
On March 29, 37-year-old James Crawford of Sequim unsuccessfully attempted to hang himself in cell L1 — a two-man cell he was occupying alone. Sequim police booked Crawford into the jail on suspicion of sexually assaulting two girls during a six-year period.
