Mobile home destroyed in Forks fire; no injuries reported

FORKS — A Clallam County Sheriff’s deputy looking for car prowlers instead found a mobile home fire early Sunday morning, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no one was injured, said Sgt. Jim Dixon, Sheriff’s Office West End supervisor.

Forks Fire Department firefighters doused the blaze, Dixon said. The mobile home was badly damaged.

Ray Dickinson, who was renting the mobile home, was provided alternative housing by his landlord, Dixon said. He also has family in the area.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and the Forks Fire Department are investigating the fire, focusing on faulty electrical wiring, Dixon said.

Deputy Gene Hoagland was on patrol on Merchant Road at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday, making an extra round in an area that had had several car prowls and burglaries, Dixon said.

Dixon said Hoagland approached a trailer home at 1630 Merchant Road and noted something was out of place.

“The light inside the window looked like a fire,” he said.

Hoaglund reported the fire to dispatchers at PenCom, the 9-1-1 dispatch center for the county.

Seeing several cars in the driveway, he knocked on doors and windows to alert any people who might be inside to the fire, but found non one in the house, Dixon said.
