Missing, murdered listed

PORT ANGELES — Nine people with local ties were listed as missing or murdered Indigenous people during Friday’s march.

They are:

• Matthew Dean, a Makah member who would be 41 now, has been missing since Jan. 14, 2020.

• Bryce Herda, who would be 34 now, has been missing from the Makah Reservation since April 9, 1995, Herda was listed as American Indian/Alaska Native.

• Waniyetu (Autumn Emery) LovesWar of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe was found dead at the age of 19 on July 16, 2019. The case is unsolved.

• Brenda Justus (Grant), a member of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, who was murdered July 26, 2010.

• Valerie Claplanhoo, member of the Makah Tribe, was murdered in Sequim on Jan. 1, 2019. The case remains unsolved.

• Tawnya Tom, of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe, was murdered.

• Giovanna Tyler, a Makah tribal member who would be 48 now, has been missing since March 28, 2004.

• Trinity Leeann Kriener, a Makah tribal member, was murdered July 3, 2018 at the age of 26.

• Michael David Kriener, died Sept. 11, 2011 at the age of 20. The death was ruled a suicide, but is suspected to have been murder, according to tribal members.

Another unsolved murder is that of First Nations artist George Cecil David of Port Alberni, B.C., who was killed March 28, 2016 in Port Angeles and had ties with Makah tribal members.
