FAIRHOLM — A 53-year-old man was jailed early Saturday after his wife said he threatened her with a gun in their home at 2364 Camp David Jr. Road.
Chris Patrick Andrew Bueno, 53, remained in the Clallam County jail on investigation of domestic violence harassment and assault Saturday with no bond set.
National Park Service rangers, who have jurisdiction over the location, requested mutual aid after Bueno reportedly threatened to commit suicide and to shoot his wife, who armed herself and locked herself in an upstairs bedroom at about 7:45 p.m., said Sgt. Brian King, chief criminal deputy for the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.
Four park rangers, four sheriff’s deputies — including a sergeant trained in hostage negotiation — and officers from the U.S. Border Patrol, Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal Police and the State Patrol responded.
They were able to extricate Bueno’s wife, whose first name was not released, and talk Bueno into surrendering, King said.
King said negotiations were complicated by difficulty in contacting Bueno by cellphone on the north side of Lake Crescent.
Bueno also was intoxicated, according to King, who said that “certainly complicated the process.”
They finally communicated with him by bullhorn, King said.
Park officials may pursue the case themselves, King said, or turn it over to the FBI, which has criminal jurisdiction over park property.
