OLYMPIA — Two of the state legislators representing Clallam and Jefferson counties have urged Gov. Christine Gregoire to meet with Lower Elwha Klallam tribal officials about the abandoned Port Angeles graving yard project, but no meeting has yet occurred.
Majority Leader Lynn Kessler, D-Hoquiam, and Sen. Jim Hargrove, also D-Hoquiam met with the new governor early Friday morning, they said Monday.
The two of them, along with Rep. Jim Buck, R-Joyce, represent the 24th District in the Legislature, which includes Clallam and Jefferson counties and part of Grays Harbor County.
Kessler said she met Monday with Transportation Department officials and House Transportation Committee chairman Ed Murray, D-Seattle, and heard that Gregoire and Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal Chairwoman Frances Charles still had not been in contact.
“So I’m still waiting to hear from the governor to see if that’s an option. I think that’s our best option at this point,” she said.
