PORT ANGELES — Jim’s Pharmacy employees and customers have helped to give the Peninsula Home Fund a good start in the new year.
In December, the pharmacy raised $519.32 for the Home Fund as part of the “Shop with Loyalty and Shop Locally” program.
The pharmacy at 424 E. Second St. has made the Peninsula Home Fund its December charity for several years.
“The Home Fund is a great way for our employees and our patrons to come together and help make it happen for others in our community when they just need a lift,” said Lisa Jorgensen, chief operations officer for the hometown pharmacy.
Every month, the business supports a different local charity or program.
“We sell used books that go to a charity. We also give a percentage of our over-the-counter profits for the month to the charity” and take donations from customers and employees, Jorgensen said.
Occasionally, the pharmacy will do a special fundraising activity, such as a bake sale, barbecue or penny drive, she said.
“We have been doing this program since at least 2008,” she said.
In 2015, the pharmacy raised $846.36. In 2014, the amount was $1,043.28 and in 2013, the donation was $904.04.
“Jim’s is all about helping the community out,” Jorgensen said.
