Jefferson Transit updates Port Townsend routes

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson Transit Authority has announced several changes to its services effective Sept. 29.

They include adding a midday trip on route 1 Brinnon, extending route 4 to Kearney Street in Port Townsend and combining routes 11A and 11B into one continuous route 11.

When the fall schedule takes effect, passengers to Brinnon will have an option to depart the Haines Place Park & Ride at 10:25 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays with a return trip departing from Triton Cove State Park at 11:47 a.m.

Route 4 Upper Sims currently departs the Haines Place Park & Ride and heads up Sims Way to Hancock Street before turning to head back to Sheridan Street, onto Discovery Road, Rainier Street, back onto Sims Way and Sheridan Street and then turns onto 12th Street to return to Haines Place.

The new route 4 will leave the Park & Ride then turn left onto Sims Way, left onto Kearney Street, Blaine Street, Discovery Road, Rainier Avenue and Sims Way before turning onto Hancock Street, Ninth Avenue, Sheridan Street and return to Haines Place on 12th Street.

Currently, the downtown shuttle 11A and 11B drive the same 20-minute route in opposite directions.

When the schedule change takes effect, the 11B route will no longer run and the 11A route will be re-designated as 11 Shuttle and will depart the Haines Place Park & Ride every 20 minutes from Mondays through Saturdays.

The changes, which were approved by the authority’s board of directors at its August meeting, resulted from a combination of operational analysis and community engagement.
