PORT HADLOCK — Jefferson County Public Utility District commissioners will pursue a study into the viability of forming a private electric utility, despite a threat of litigation from Puget Sound Energy.
The commissioners agreed on Wednesday to request feedback from officials with Port Townsend, Jefferson County and Port of Port Townsend on a proposal for a preliminary feasibility study of the idea, which would add electricity to the water and sewage service the PUD now provides.
Terry Oxley, PSE spokesman, told commissioners at their March 19 meeting that the utility, which provides power to Jefferson County now would take legal action if county voters give the district the authority to provide energy and the agency acts to do so.
