LAPUSH — Quileute tribal member James Jamie has moved back to LaPush from Seattle after being hired as the tribe’s new executive director.
Jamie, 51, left his job with the nonprofit Northwest Sustainable Energy for Economic Development to take the executive director position.
He succeeds Kyle Taylor Lucas, who served in the position for only five months before leaving in early January.
This isn’t the first time Jamie has worked in a leadership role for the tribe, having served as tribal chairman from 1989-93.
Jamie said he views his new role to be one that is part of a larger whole working together for the betterment of the Quileute people and the community of LaPush.
Jamie said he will work on the priorities of the Tribal Council, and will work with the directors of each tribal program to maintain and strengthen the services they provide.
“There’s nothing we can’t accomplish if we work together,” he said.
Last week was Jamie’s first week on the job, so he’s still familiarizing himself with the council’s top priorities.
However, he identified the need to find a manager for the tribe’s River’s Edge Restaurant, and improvements at the marina to prevent flooding as issues he’s already started to become familiar with.
