SHINE — The state Department of Transportation has canceled this week’s closures of the Hood Canal Bridge.
The bridge had been scheduled to be closed to vehicle traffic overnight Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 11 p.m. that night to 4 a.m. the following morning.
The closures were canceled Tuesday morning because of adverse weather conditions, the agency said.
The five-hour overnight closures allow crews to continue work on a project that replaces and bolsters bridge equipment.
The agency attempted to do the work Dec. 21-22, but it canceled those closures, also because of weather.
It will try again next week.
Here is the revised total closure schedule:
• 11 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11 to 4 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12
• 11 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12 to 4 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13
• 11 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13 to 4 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14
All work on the bridge is weather-dependent and could be rescheduled.
Due to the nature of the work, the bridge will not open for any traffic, including emergency response.

The agency once sent text messages upon request about Hood Canal Bridge closures and openings, but a notice on the website says those have been disabled due to cost.
