BRINNON — The body of Joshua Guerrier, who had been missing since May 29, has been recovered, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office detectives, in collaboration with Jefferson Search and Rescue, Brinnon Fire Department and a cadaver police dog from Mason County Search and Rescue had been searching for Guerrier, a 28-year-old from Olympia.
The Mason County K9 team followed a trail that led to finding Guerrier’s body partially submerged in water, wedged against debris in the river near milepost 2 on July 1, the sheriff’s office said on its Facebook page.
Subsequently, the search-and-rescue teams recovered the body.
The Kitsap County Medical Examiner’s office conducted an examination, identifying Guerrier, and determining the cause of death to be drowning, the sheriff’s office said.
The manner of death was ruled accidental, the sheriff’s office said.
It had been presumed that Guerrier had entered the river near Ranger Hole, a water pool located at the end of a short hike from milepost 4 on Duckabush River Road. Guerrier left behind his dog, clothing, hiking supplies and cellular phone on the river bank.
Center Valley Animal Rescue assisted with recovering the dog, according to the sheriff’s office.
