GARDINER — Gardiner Beach Road will be closed today through Sept. 29 for reconstruction.
Only construction and local traffic will be allowed between milepost 0.56 and milepost 0.69 adjacent to the boat ramp, the Port of Port Townsend said.
A signed detour will be in place during the construction.
Local traffic will be allowed onto the closed section of the road, but not through the construction zone, the port said.
The road reconstruction is needed to improve access to the newly reconstructed boat ramp and is one of the last phases of work remaining before the boat ramp can be reopened, the port said.
The ramp opening is slated for mid-October.
The project is being overseen by Van Ness Construction of Port Hadlock-Irondale.
The total cost of $1,072,000 is being funded with $532,123 in port funds, $539,877 from the state’s Recreation and Conservation Office and $50,000 from the Jefferson County Road Fund.
