Free Christmas community meals planned today

Volunteers still needed

A free, traditional holiday dinner is planned at the Tri Area Community Center, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is hosting its Just Soup meal in Jefferson County today.

Tri Area Community Meals is sponsoring the community dinner from noon to 3 p.m. and will offer attendees a traditional spread of ham, scallop potatoes, salad, rolls and pie, said Rita Hubbard, Tri Area Community Meals chairman.

The meal is free, but donations are appreciated, Hubbard said.

The team also will deliver meals throughout Jefferson County. Those interested in arranging delivery have until noon today to call 360-605-0300.

Hubbard has enough volunteers to help serve the meal, but could use more delivery drivers from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and help from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to clean up after the meal.

Those interested in volunteering can contact Hubbard at 360-605-0300.

The Tri Area Community Center is located at 10 West Valley Road.

PORT TOWNSEND

St. Paul’s Just Soup service is a weekly free soup lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the parish hall of the church at 1020 Jefferson St. in Port Townsend.

Today’s soup will be a turkey soup that “tastes like a turkey dinner in a pot,” said the Rev. Dianne Andrews of St. Paul’s.

Just Soup’s regular volunteers will be assisted by volunteers from Bet Shira, the Jewish congregation of Port Townsend, who Andrews is grateful to for their assistance.

The soup is free, but donations are appreciated, Andrews said.
