Two aerospace engineers hope to launch a 10-foot-tall, three-stage rocket sometime this week after wet West End weather and air-space scheduling issues postponed the launch Saturday and Sunday.
Eric Meier, Space Transport Corp. vice president, said he and his partner, company president Phillip Storm, believe a launch is possible on Thursday, “when some blue sky is expected.”‘
Meier said no “casual observers” are allowed to watch the launch any closer than three miles, according to Federal Aviation Administration safety regulations.
“The best viewing will be from any open site in or around Forks,” such as Tillicum Park, “looking roughly westward and spaceward,” he said.
Storm and Meier are competing for $10 million in a contest that requires them to ultimately launch an astronaut into space, then reuse most of the spacecraft to launch an astronaut back into space within two weeks.
