Forks gunshot victim in ICU at Harborview

13 rounds fired from pistol

FORKS — A 69-year-old Forks man was reported in serious condition Tuesday at Harborview Medical Center with a gunshot wound, authorities said.

David E. Beebe remained at the University of Washington Medical Center intensive care unit, hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg said. He was airlifted early Monday morning to the Seattle hospital after he was shot at his home east of Forks.

The Calawah Way resident was wounded in the ankle area by one of 13 gunshots fired from a 15-round semiautomatic pistol at about 3 a.m. Monday, Sheriff Bill Benedict said Tuesday.

Beebe told deputies he was climbing into his logging truck when he heard multiple rounds hit the side of his truck and felt one sear his lower leg.

Beebe was on his way to work, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release.

He told deputies he may have interrupted a vehicle prowl at his residence in the 1400 block of Calawah Way but said he did not see in the darkness who shot at him.

Benedict said 13 shell casings were found at the scene.

“The gun was recovered,” he said.

“All of the evidence we have seen is consistent with the public not being in danger.

“There was no physical evidence whatsoever at the crime scene that would point to any suspect.”

Beebe’s wife said the gun used in the shooting had been in her purse, which was in her car, Benedict said.

The case remains under investigation.
