Weather as murky as a Port Townsend ghost continued to haunt the North Olympic Peninsula on Tuesday, with no parting of the shroud foreseen before Thanksgiving.
Kenmore Air Express tried to land an aircraft at Port Angeles on Tuesday afternoon, but after two attempts the pilot returned to Seattle because of poor visibility.
The air carrier was arranging for vans to carry passengers from Kenmore’s terminal at Seattle’s Boeing Field to Sequim and Port Angeles.
The last Kenmore plane to leave Port Angeles’ William R. Fairchild International Airport took off Saturday afternoon.
Sandy Briggs, Kenmore’s Port Angeles station manager, on Tuesday was calling people with tickets on today’s flights, advising them the runs likely would be canceled.
Private aircraft landing
Although private aircraft were reported landing in the fog at Jefferson International Airport south of Port Townsend on Tuesday, Briggs noted that Federal Aviation Administration rules are much stricter for passenger carriers.
Olympic Bus Lines’ last bus Tuesday from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to Port Angeles was full, said the carrier’s president, Jack Heckman.
However, the company has added two coaches to runs that will depart Sea-Tac for Port Angeles at 1 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. today.
Seats are available on buses departing Port Angeles for Sea-Tac at 6:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. today.
Briggs and Heckman both were telling callers that Budget Car & Truck Rental had vehicles available for one-way trips to Sea-Tac.
