SEQUIM — Firefighters from Clallam County Fire District 3 extinguished two vehicle fires early Sunday morning.
Crews were dispatched from the district’s Carlsborg station at 5:26 a.m. to a reported vehicle fire on Horizon Hills Road just off Lost Mountain Road.
While en route, dispatchers told the crew the fire had spread from one vehicle to an adjacent one with an RV camper on it.
The rising smoke was visible from Sequim near the River Road roundabout, the fire district said.
The primary vehicle contained a combustible metal that made it challenging for responders, the fire district said. About 1,500 gallons on water was used to extinguish the blaze, the fire district reported.
A battalion chief and another engine from the Sequim station arrived to help provide water.
No injuries were reported, the fire district said.
Last year, the fire district said it responded to 16 vehicle fires, accounting for 16 percent of its fire calls. It cited the U.S. Fire Administration, which said, “If you think there is a fire under the hood or truck, do not open it. This could cause the fire to grow.”
