EYE ON THE PENINSULA: Charter Review commission to hear draft proposal

Meetings across the North Olympic Peninsula

A draft Clallam County charter amendment, preliminary results of state financial audits and a community forum regarding the Rayonier Mill cleanup plan will be before Peninsula boards and commissions next week.

Clallam County Commissioners

The three Clallam County commissioners will consider during their weekly work session Monday authorizing the county clerk to seek individuals to serve on the “For” and “Against” committees for a proposed charter amendment regarding the coroner to publish in the voters’ pamphlet.

The commissioners’ work session, at 9 a.m. Monday, will preview items set for action at their formal meeting, which will start at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

• Discussion regarding appointments to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

• A resolution appointing Nancy Stephanz to the Marine Resources Advisory Committee.

• An agreement with state Administrative Office of the Courts to support the Family and Juvenile Court Improvement Plan.

• An agreement with the Office of Crime Victims Advocacy for $54,029 to support the county’s Victim/Witness Assistance Grant Program.

• A resolution authorizing expenditures from the Clallam County Heritage Advisory Board grant fund of $2,500 for Naval Elks Lodge #535 and $10,000 the North Olympic Peninsula Railroaders.

• An agreement with the Quileute Indian Tribe for $1,500 per month to lease part of a building for West End office space for the Sheriff’s Office.

• An agreement with the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society for $1,095.75 per month for exclusive use of three kennels plus $49 per day for animal housing and care services.

• An agreement with the Department of Social and Health Services for up to $2,765,995 to provide adult developmental disability services through June 30, 2026.

• A public hearing regarding a resolution authorizing Opportunity Fund grants totaling $384,184 to provide matching funds for city of Forks, $60,000; the Port of Port Angeles, $116,000; Composite Recycling Technology Center, $100,000; and Clallam EDC, $108,184.

• A public hearing regarding the proposed repeal and replacement or Clallam County Code Chapter 27.08, Open Space.
