EYE ON CLALLAM: Port to hear information about John Wayne Marina

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will hear information about John Wayne Marina from port staff as the first phase of a three-part process to decide whether the port should continue to own the marina in Sequim when they meet at 9 a.m. Thursday.

The special meeting will be in the Port Angeles City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

Port commissioners are to decide if the port should sell the marina after a district listening session on July 2 and a recap of the listening session on Aug. 13.

A date has not been set for the final decision.

Interest in purchasing the 300-slip Sequim Bay facility has been expressed by Bend developer Ron Cole and Newport developer Jeff Pence.

The idea is controversial as members of the public and the Sequim City Council have expressed concerns about continuing public access to the marina.

County commissioners

Clallam County commissioners will hear an update on code enforcement issues at a work session that will begin at 9 a.m. Monday.

The work session will be in the commissioners’ board room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Other discussion items include:

• Open Public Meetings Act training.

• An update on Clallam Conservation District activities.

• A contract extension with Bode Cellmark for forensic testing services related to the Tommy Ross murder case.

• A call for bids for the Clallam County Juvenile and Family Services roof replacement project.

• A Carlsborg financial plan update presented by FCS Group.

• A resolution authorizing a $50,000 expenditure from the Hotel/Motel Tax Fund for the Feiro Marine Life Center.

Commissioners will conduct their weekly business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Agenda items include:

• Recognition of Juvenile and Family Services Director Pete Peterson for more than 28 years of service to the county.

• Letters to the Jamestown S’Klallam, Lower Elwha Klallam, Makah and Quileute tribes, county fire districts and the county fire marshal seeking input on a proposed fireworks ordinance.

• A contract with K&H Printers for the printing and mailing of 2018 primary election ballots.

• A resolution authorizing the chair to vote for the county on Dungeness Meadows Homeowner Association elections.

• A call for June 19 hearing on amendments to county policy for employee benefits.

• A call for June 19 hearing on a proposed fireworks ordinance.

• State Recreation and Conservation Office landowner acknowledgement forms for Kugel Creek and Hoko Ozette culvert replacement projects.

City of Port Angeles

The Port Angeles City Council will consider adoption of a six-year Capital Facilities Plan and Transportation Improvement Plan after a second reading at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The regular council meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth. A special meeting will begin at 5 p.m. for ethics training for elected officials. The training is open to the public.

Another public hearing and first reading is scheduled on proposed amendments to the city’s Comprehensive Plan.

Agenda items include presentations on the upcoming Port Angeles Maritime Festival and Pick Up Port Angeles.

Later in the meeting, the council will hear an update on Peninsula Communications regionalization and consider a 2018 power line tree trimming contract.

Planning commission

The Clallam County Planning Commission will discuss proposed title amendments for code compliance and Board of Health regulations at work session that begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The work session will be in Room 160 at the Clallam County Courthouse.

The proposed amendments would repeal and replace the code chapter for appeals, create an administrative hearing process, repeal the code chapter for citations and amend various chapters in both titles.

Olympic Medical Center

Olympic Medical Center commissioners will consider bid authorization for the Sequim Cancer Center and Primary Care expansion project when they meet at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Commissioners will meet in the upstairs conference room at the Sequim Medical Services Building at 840 N. Fifth Ave.

The board also will hear updates on the Sequim free clinic and the Sequim campus.

They will consider appointing a deputy auditor and deputy treasurer.

Sequim schools

The Sequim School Board will her a report from the Community Truancy Board when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday.

The board will meet at Greywolf Elementary School, 171 Carlsborg Road. An executive session is set from 5 p.m. to 5:50 p.m. to review the performance of a public official. No action will be taken.

The board also will hear reports on vision screening and spring sports.

It will discuss finances and consider approval of a letters of support procedure and a policy on collective bargaining.

Port Angeles schools

The Port Angeles School Board will her an update on truancy when it meets at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The meeting will be in the Central Services Building, 216 E. Fourth St.

Board members also will hear about summer school, and lunch prices.
