EYE ON CLALLAM: County to mull Opportunity Fund grant to Forks

Government meetings across Clallam County.

The three Clallam County commissioners are expected to set a public hearing for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25 on a proposal to award an Opportunity Fund grant for $2,375,610 to upgrade the city of Forks’ Wastewater Treatment Facility.

• A public hearing on the draft shoreline master program periodic review.

• Resolutions appointing several volunteer board and commission members.

• A resolution to conduct a public hearing at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1 on an ordinance to repeal the county’s check processing fee.

• Discussion about establishing June 19 as Juneteenth, a legal county holiday.

• Discussion about the county charter update project.

• Discussion about an updated COVID sick leave policy for 2022.

• A resolution to create a new fleet replacement fund for Clallam County Fire District #2.

• A notice that $183,872 of American Rescue Plan Act funding will be used to purchase a body-scanning security system.

• A resolution authorizing the Board of Equalization to convene.

• A purchase agreement with Codan Radio Communications for $59,850.71 to upgrade the law enforcement dispatch radio system.

• A five-year lease agreement with Olympic View Properties, Inc. for offices for the Family Support Division; monthly rent will be $1,780 in 2022 and will increase annually to a monthly rate of $2,040 in 2026.

• A draft ordinance on surety bonds for certain county officials.

• A draft letter of support regarding a Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities grant for the Dungeness off-channel reservoir project.

• A time extension on the lower Dungeness River floodplain restoration project.

• The appointment of Rachel Weed as deputy clerk of the board.

• An agreement for $333,814 with Reflections Counseling Services Group to provide crisis intervention services during the 2022-2023 biennium.

Association of counties

The Washington State Association of Counties will hear a weekly update on COVID-19 when they meet at noon Monday.

Both Clallam and Jefferson counties will participate.

Canvassing Board

The Clallam County Canvassing Board will address potential voter fraud during a special meeting at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will be in the county elections center, Room 72, of the county courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

The board members will be examining three ballots from the 2018 election that have come into question.

The board consists of Shoona Riggs, county auditor; Mark Nichols, prosecuting attorney; and Mark Ozias, chair of the board of county commissioners.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will swear in new commissioners and review the commission’s bylaws during a regular meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Conservation District

Clallam Conservation District commissioners will consider approving the 2022 work plan and budget when they meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Forks city

The Forks City Council will discuss the 2021 fourth quarter year-to-date reports for sales and lodging taxes and building permits when it meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The council will also consider appointments to the Clallam Transit System board and the Peninsula Regional Transportation Planning Organization; they may also move to executive session.

The Sequim City Council will consider a memorandum of agreement with the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe for a MAT navigator during a regular meeting at 6 p.m. Monday.
