EYE ON CLALLAM: Board to discuss working forests

Clallam County commissioners will discuss the economic and environmental impacts of working forests Monday.

The work session will begin at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ board room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Other scheduled discussion items include:

• A monthly budget performance update.

• State Department of Ecology grants for solid waste enforcement, planning and implementation.

• A forest practice application with the state Department of Natural Resources for an easement to the Striped Peak area.

Commissioners will hold their weekly business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Action items include:

• Agreements with Olympic Community Action Programs and Serenity House of Clallam County for affordable housing and homeless housing.

• An agreement with Jefferson County for the North Pacific Coast Marine Resources Committee.

• An agreement with Aqua Terra Cultural Resource Consultants to provide services for the Lower Dungeness floodplain restoration project.

• A call for March 27 public hearings on debatable budget emergencies and on proposed changes to planning, building and building division fee schedules.

Port Angeles city

The Port Angeles City Council will gather for a special meeting Wednesday for City Manager Dan McKeen’s State of the City address to the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce. The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Port Angeles Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St.

No action will be taken.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will hear of a potential, unsolicited offer for the purchase of John Wayne Marina according to the agenda for the meeting that will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be at the Port of Port Angeles building, 338 W. First St.

Also on the agenda is an amendment with Kennedy/Jenks Consulting for engineering work on the Marine Terminal Stormwater Treatment Project and a lease with Airborne Environmental Control Systems, LLC.

Forks city

The Forks City Council will consider an ordinance allowing the discharge of firearms when authorized by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife when it meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The council will meet at City Hall, 500 E. Division St.

The council also will consider an ordinance involving vacation rentals, interim financing for the water reservoir project, and a property lease for Rusty Gate Nursery & Building Supply.

Sequim city

The Sequim City Council will conduct a public hearing on a plan for 10 condominium units when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday.

The council will meet at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

The hearing will be on the land-use application for the Devon Court Preliminary Binding Site Plan. The units would be built on the southwest corner of Old Olympic Highway and the North Fifth Avenue intersection. A public hearing amending the subdivision ordinance is continued until March 26.

The council will consider an agreement with CommunityPlus that authorizes the city to co-sponsor free public music and art events with the city’s ASCAP/BMI licenses.

It will consider a joint resolution with Clallam County Fire District No. 3 to locate an emergency medical facility in Sequim.

The council is expected to issue a proclamation commemorating the 50th anniversary of the League of Women Voters of Clallam County.

Quillayute Valley

The Quillayute Valley School Board will consider the 2018-19 district calendar and the 2018-19 course catalogue when it meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The board will meet in the library at Forks High School, 261 Spartan Ave.

PA parks

The Port Angeles Parks, Recreation and Beautification Commission will hear a presentation from Sean Coleman of the Lincoln Park BMX Association at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The meeting will be in the City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

Conservation District

The Clallam Conservation District board will discuss an interlocal agreement with the Agnew Irrigation District for an aquifer recharge project Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. in Suite H at Armory Square, 228 W. First St., Port Angeles.

Other agenda items include a sick-leave policy amendment, an on-site septic system repair cost-share policy amendment and an interlocal agreement with Mason Conservation District for surveying assistance.

Peninsula College

The Peninsula College Board of Trustees will hold its regular meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be in Cornaby Center on the Peninsula College Port Angeles campus.
