PORT TOWNSEND — Eight candidates added their names on Wednesday to the list of 31 people who have filed for one of 44 Jefferson County offices open during this year’s elections.
The filing deadline to qualify for the ballot is 5 p.m. Friday.
The eight new candidates include Port Townsend School District Board Director John Eissinger, who is seeking re-election to Position No. 1.
Chimacum School District Board Director Ted Friedrich of Port Hadlock also filed on Wednesday, seeking re-election to Position No. 1.
Two incumbent Brinnon School District directors filed. Valerie Schindler will seek re-election to Position No. 1 and Robert Mollerus is running for Position No. 5.
Fire District No. 6 Commissioner Virgil See of Port Townsend filed for re-election to Position No. 1.
Brinnon resident Karl Springer filed for Cemetery District No. 1 Position No. 1.
Fire District No. 5 Commissioner C. Randy Okerman filed for re-election to Position No. 1. He is being challenged by Port Townsend resident Barbara Knoepfle, who filed on Monday.
Kathy McKenna of Port Townsend filed for the Port of Port Townsend District No. 2 Commissioner position, occupied by Conrad Pirner.
She is being challenged by two other Port Townsend residents, Gary Rossow and Gloria Bram, who filed on Monday.
