Dove House distributes funds

Application deadline Jan.13

PORT TOWNSEND — Dove House Advocacy Services invites local organizations providing free emergency food, meals and shelter to apply for Federal Emergency Management Agency funds totaling $14,885.

The deadline is 3 p.m. Jan. 13 to submit an application for an award from that funding, which comes to Jefferson County from the Department of Homeland Security’s Emergency Food and Shelter National Program.

“This is important funding to support basic needs for people in Jefferson County,” said Dove House development staffer Bekka Bloom.

Organizations are encouraged to send letters, including the purposes for their requests, to development@dovehousejc.org, while information is also available by phoning 360-385-5292.

A local board made up of representatives from safety net organizations, the clergy, county leadership and United Good Neighbors will review the applications received, and will make a decision as to how the funds are to be distributed.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must:

• Be private voluntary nonprofits or be a unit of government.

• Have a voluntary board.

• Have an accounting system.

• Practice nondiscrimination.

• Have demonstrated a capability to deliver emergency food, meals, and/or shelter programs.

• Be eligible to receive federal funds.

Jefferson County has distributed Emergency Food and Shelter funds previously to the Jefferson County Food Banks, Dove House Advocacy Services, Olympic Community Action Programs, the COAST Homeless Shelter and St. Vincent de Paul.

“This funding works on a reimbursable basis,” said Bloom, adding organizations must spend monies by May 31.
