The Washington Traffic Safety Commission announced that more than 150 law enforcement agencies statewide will be adding extra patrols to look for distracted drivers today through Sunday, April 14.
According to state law it is illegal for drivers to hold cellphones or to access information or watch videos while they are driving or stopped either in traffic or at a stop light.
Fines are $136 for the first offense and $234 for a second.
Participating North Olympic agencies include the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Port Angeles Police Department, Port Townsend Police Department and the Sequim Police Department.
