PLATYPUS MARINE, THE full-service shipyard, yacht-repair facility and steel-boat manufacturer on Marine Drive in Port Angeles, launched Afterglow on Friday afternoon.

She is a 126-foot Christensen luxury yacht that came from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for a new set of generators and to have her stabilizers refurbished.

When she arrived at the beginning of January, she was known as Sea Bear.

Seattle Boat Show

The Seattle Boat Show, Indoors + Afloat, which touts itself as the West Coast’s largest boat show, began Friday and concludes Saturday, Feb. 6.

The indoor portion of the event is held at CenturyLink Field and the afloat aspect at South Lake Union.

The event is advertising that there will be over 200 free boating and fishing seminars, so I would suggest book early and often.

The North Olympic Peninsula will be well-represented at the boat show.

Platypus Marine has a booth that will be staffed by Marty Marchant and Brad Hale.

Armstrong Marine has a stall that will alternately be manned by Capt. Charlie Crane, Perry Knudsen and Josh Armstrong.

The Port of Port Townsend will also have a presence.

PA port

Last Saturday in the late afternoon, the 854-foot crude oil tanker Polar Enterprise moored to the Port of Port Angeles’ Terminal 1 North.

She was in port a scant 24 hours to give personnel from Vigor Industrial an opportunity to make a minor mechanical repair before the vessel resumed her journey to Valdez for another big gulp of Alaskan crude oil for a West Coast refinery.

Boat launch rebuild

This week, contractors were rebuilding the west Boat Haven boat launch, which is situated under the turquoise blue chip loader and behind Castaways Restaurant’s parking lot.

They were driving pile for a new launch ramp and floats.

At the rate they’re going, my guess is the launch should be operational for the upcoming recreational boating season.

Patrol boat launches

On Wednesday, Lee Shore Boats, the aluminum-boat manufacturer whose facility is on the west side of Port Angeles across from Airport Nursery, launched a 31-foot patrol boat it recently built for the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.

I understand the vessel will work out of Port Angeles and Port Townsend.

Harbor happenings

On Tuesday, Tesoro Petroleum bunkered Jade, a 623-foot bulk cargo ship that came here from Grays Harbor after being loaded with soybeans.

On Wednesday, Tesoro provided bunkers to Silver Ginny, a 600-foot petroleum products carrier that is flagged in the Marshall Islands.

On Sunday, Tesoro is scheduled to refuel Jia Xing, a 557-foot bulk cargo ship that is coming to Port Angeles from the Columbia River.
