SEATTLE — A 25-year-old Tacoma resident died from serious chest injuries on Monday in Harborview Medical Center a week after being involved in a one-vehicle crash outside of Port Hadlock.
Stacy Veitenhans was a passenger in a Dodge Ram that collided with a utility pole June 20 on State Route 116.
The vehicle’s driver, Jonah Butera, 33, of Eugene, Ore., received minor injuries and was arrested by Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies. He was accused of driving under the influence and vehicular assault.
Veitenhans’ death automatically turned Butera’s assault charge into a vehicular homicide case, Jefferson County Undersheriff Tim Perry said.
The crash caused a temporary power outage on Marrowstone Island after the pole and power lines fell across the roadway, blocking all lanes of traffic.
Emergency workers restored electricity by the next morning.
