SEQUIM — It’s official. Costco Wholesale in Carlsborg is getting a new home in Sequim — and a fancy one at that.
“I think we will have a one-of-a-kind structure . . . that we can be proud of,” Sequim City Planner Dennis Lefevre said.
“They’re not your typical white-sheet metal buildings.”
The new Costco will be built along Ninth Avenue east of Home Depot.
Plans for the 143,000-square-foot structure have been submitted to the city’s Public Works Department, and Lefevre said he anticipates the review of the plans will be finished within the next few months.
The new Costco will be double the size of the current 72,000-square-foot store located on U.S. Highway 101 and Hooker Road.
The new store will have a fuel center and other amenities, such as a one-hour photo mart and optical and hearing aid centers, that the current facility does not.
An environmental review for the new Costco gas station has been completed, Lefevre said.
No room to expand
The move to Sequim is necessary, Lefevre said, because there is no room for expansion on the Carlsborg site.
Costco officials have previously said that the Carlsborg site is not large enough to accommodate a bigger store.
