PORT ANGELES — Clallam Transit board members on Monday approved an agreement with the city of Port Angeles to pay $223,446 more in consulting services for the International Gateway Transportation Center project.
But with design consulting fees mounting to $800,000 on a project that has not turned a shovel of soil, transit board member Mike Chapman, the county commissioner, questioned whether $11.2 million can be raised to pay for the transit center, visitor center and underground parking lot.
In its action to extend the contract with Bellevue-based design consultant Merrit+Pardini, the board directed Clallam Transit General Manager Dan Di Guilio to ask City Manager Mike Quinn in writing how the city plans to pay for its share of the project.
Chapman said he wanted to see some assurance of city funding for the project, especially since more consulting work is required.
