Clallam County Public Utility District customers could have something to cheer about — even though their electricity rates will probably increase in October.
Under an agreement approved by utility commissioners Monday, ratepayers can expect a 36 percent increase in the electricity bills, instead of the 125 percent rise first predicted.
But there is a catch.
Other public and private utilities throughout the state purchasing power from Bonneville must cut their energy consumption by 10 percent as well.
Utilities must also sign a conservation agreement with the federal power agency by June 22.
According to Clallam PUD General Manager Michael McInnes, the “rate mitigation agreement” will be signed today by utility officials. Bonneville Account Executive Chuck Foreman is expected to pick it up.
