The most expensive and hotly contested race in this year’s election hangs in the balance this morning.
Bill Hannan was leading Corby Somerville by less than 300 votes.
The two are competing for the Port of Port Angeles Sequim-area commissioner seat being vacated by Jack Waud.
As the count came to a close Tuesday night, the count was 5,784 votes for Hannan, 51.3 percent, to 5,483 votes for Somerville, 48.7 percent.
The vote count — which will include late-arriving mail-in ballots — will resume Friday morning.
“It’s too close to call at the moment, but it’s going to be too close to call regardless of how it turns out,” Somerville said Tuesday.
Hannan agreed.
“It’s been a knock-down, drag-out race,” he said. “I have a lot of confidence. I think it’s going to go our way, but it’s very stressful.”
