LAKE SUTHERLAND — It’s not as intriguing a story as the Warrens and their 1927 Chevrolet in Lake Crescent, but divers pulling milfoil in Lake Sutherland last month found what is believed to be a 1925 Ford Model T resting on the lake bottom.
It could be the work of a 1920s car theft ring that operated in the area, or it could be a car that reportedly drove out onto the lake ice and broke through.
The vehicle was found June 15 while 20 Olympic National Park and volunteer divers were looking for Eurasian milfoil, a voracious weed that park officials are trying to keep out of Lake Crescent.
Volunteer diver Bill Walker of Seattle, who also found the Warrens’ car during one of his recreational dives, said while he was pulling weeds, he wandered into deeper water and found the car, standing upright on its trunk.
Divers returned last weekend to videotape the site of the wrecked car.
