Clallam County commissioners voted 2-1 Tuesday to create the controversial farmland preservation fund, but without levying a new property tax.
The fund will be created by taking $250,000 from the county’s capital facilities fund for one year.
Commissioners Steve Tharinger, D-Sequim, and Mike Doherty, D-Port Angeles, voted for the program.
Commissioner Mike Chapman, R-Port Angeles, opposed the measure.
The approval of the funding plan raised the ire of more than a dozen speakers at Tuesday’s session, including Chapman.
