That’s the sound of a seat belt slipping into place. The $101 is the fine you’ll pay if you’re pulled over for not wearing one.
Clallam County commissioners Tuesday accepted a $3,500 grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission to pay 100 overtime hours for sheriff’s deputies.
Officers started earning the extra pay Monday and will continue emphasis patrols through June 5.
The Washington State Patrol will join in the “Click It or Ticket” program. Police in Port Angeles and Sequim also are expected to take part in the increased enforcement project.
Local law enforcement officers got another windfall Tuesday — $9,000 in surplus funds from the safety commission that the sheriff and police in Sequim and Port Angeles will use to purchase new field breathalyzers.
The money comes from agencies that did not spend their 2004 allocations or whose grants expired.
