The cat which fell more than 60 feet onto shoreline rocks on the Strait of Juan de Fuca after spending 11 nights in a tree in August was doing well after surgery Tuesday.
The 2-year-old cat named China underwent more than two hours of surgery paid by North Olympic Peninsula residents and others who read in Peninsula Daily News and heard on KOMO-TV about the need to repair the cat’s broken hip and shattered paw.
Despite losing two middle toes on her left front paw due to protruding bones, China is expected to make a full recovery, said Peninsula Friends of Animal Treasurer Nancy Campbell.
China will spend the next few days under the care of a Sequim veterinarian.
“To date we have received 65 donations totaling $1,723, and we are so pleased with the public’s response to China’s story,” Campbell said.
The non-profit group is still collecting donations for China’s $2,000 surgery.
