CHIMACUM — When firefighters and deputies arrived to a house fire in Chimacum on Monday, flames were shooting from the back as black smoke billowed into the air.
A neighbor who saw the flames reported the fire on the 4900 block of Center Road in Chimacum at 2:42 p.m., said Jefferson County Sheriff Joe Nole.
The occupant was not at the residence when the fire started, according to an East Jefferson Fire-Rescue spokesperson. The occupant will be staying with extended family in the area.
Nole said firefighters responding at 2:56 p.m. reported the double-wide mobile home was fully involved with flames visible.
He said firefighters and deputies remained on scene at about 5 p.m. Monday.
East Jefferson Fire-Rescue, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Quilcene Fire Rescue, Port Ludlow Fire and Rescue and crews from the fire station at Naval Magazine Indian Island responded.
Further information on the extent of damage and a possible cause for the fire was not available Monday.
