PORT ANGELES — Frances Charles easily won re-election Saturday to a third term of heading the Lower Elwha Klallam tribal council.
She captured more than all votes cast for other council members, each of whom was eligible to become chairperson, 98 to 74.
Councilmen Russ Hepfer and Dennis Sullivan received 57 and 13 votes, respectively. Council members Verna Henderson and Phil Charles Jr. received two votes each.
Frances Charles has been the tribe’s spokesperson since May 2004, leading the council through the turbulent events surrounding the former Hood Canal Bridge graving yard.
