SEQUIM — A rash of burglaries has spread across town this month.
The most recent break-ins occurred Monday morning at the Sequim Medical Plaza, 777 N. Fifth Ave., and at the Sequim Senior Center, 921 E. Hammond St.
Police officers Jim Vorhies and Mike Hill responded to a 1 a.m. burglar alarm sounding at the medical plaza.
They found an east-side window that had been pried open and a trail of mail leading along the north side of the building.
The officers noticed that some of the mail was addressed to a resident of Sherwood Manor. When they contacted the resident, they found the window had been opened and mail and checks stolen.
The Senior Center and its Elements Cafe were also burglarized Monday, police said.
A back door was pried open and an unknown amount of cash taken.
Burglars have hit two other businesses police said: Petals Garden Cafe, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., on May 3, and Tailgate Pizza, 990 E. Washington St., on May 14.
In each of the break-ins, burglars used prying tools to enter a rear door or window and, once in, focused on cash, added police spokeswoman Maris Turner.
