PORT ANGELES — A half-acre fire behind Granny’s Cafe on the Joyce access road broke out Thursday night and was controlled by Friday evening, said the fire district manager for the state Department of Natural Resources.
“They’ll check it a couple of times before calling it out,” Brian Suslick said Saturday.
The fire along the Joyce Peidmont Access Road was reported as a smoke investigation at 7:48 p.m.
Clallam County Fire District No. 2 firefighters found the fire burning on state DNR lands in a previously logged area, said Fire Chief Sam Phillips.
The district brought two brush engines, one water tender, two command vehicles and an ambulance, Phillips said.
Shortly after arrival, a DNR fire forester arrived and took command of the fire, the chief said.
DNR responded with multiple engines and firefighters. Clallam 2 personnel were able to return to protect their district while leaving one water tender and two personnel at the scene to support DNR, Phillips said.
All outdoor burning is prohibited under current burning restrictions established by the Clallam County fire marshal. Only three-foot diameter recreational fires in approved fire rings are allowed.
