CARLSBORG — Service was restored late Wednesday afternoon to many customers who lost water service when a water main east of Clallam Public Utility District’s Carlsborg campus broke that morning.
Nicole Hartman, PUD communications manager, said the water main broke sometime between 11:30 a.m. and noon along the 100 block of Hooker Road.
The outage impacted 199 PUD water customers with low to no water pressure north of U.S. Highway 101, and east of Hooker Road on the south side of the highway, she reported.
Crews were on site early Wednesday afternoon “attempting to implement a workaround to bring as many customers back into service as possible until repairs can be completed,” she wrote on the PUD’s website.
Service was restored to customers on the north side of Highway 101 except for Greywolf Elementary School and customers south of Greywolf, west of Carlsborg Road on the north side, and customers east of Hooker Road, south of the highway. These customers will be out of service until repairs are completed, staff report, and an estimated time for restoration is not yet known.
At 4 p.m., crews still were seeking the source of the leak. The cause of the break was still to be determined , Hartman said.
At 1:45 p.m., Hartman reported crews were able to control the water main break and they plan to bring some customers back in service before repairs are complete.
The grassy area where the main broke used to be the PUD’s septic field before the agency connected to the Carlsborg Sewer line, Hartman said.
