BRINNON — Jefferson County Quilts of Valor presented quilts to eight current or former U.S. service members at a ceremony June 18.
The awardees were Sherry Adcock, Army, Cuban missile crisis; Larry Hartley, Navy, Korea and Vietnam; Gerald Maxey, Navy, Vietnam; Don Griffith, Navy, Vietnam; Ernie Muir, Army, Vietnam; Ron Hough, Army National Guard, Afghanistan; David Garman, Navy, Iraq; and Ken Gaul, Navy, World War II.
According to a press release, Hough will deploy to Afghanistan again in September.
Quilts of Valor is a volunteer organization that sews quilts to present to veterans of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard as well as to current service members.
The quilters will be holding their fourth summer sew day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 27.
The annual event is held at the Marvin G. Shields American Legion Post No. 26, 209 Monroe St., Port Townsend. The public is invited to come help sew, no prior quilting experience is necessary.
The organization has public ceremonies on Veterans Day and on Memorial Day but participates in private ceremonies as well.
